July 09: Prayer bricks

Here are some prayer pointers or bricks: Prayer should be the foundation of all we do in Christ.

  • Thank God for the evening in the Sanctuary on Thursday 18 June.  Thank him for the times of worship and prayer.  Thank him for the opportunity to consider the designs proposed by the three architects.  Thank him for everyone's participation and involvement - for all the feedback received.
  • Pray that we keep focused on our vision: Gospel, Growing, Going.
  • Pray for those with responsibility on the BUILD Project Board.  Julie Eady leading on finance and funding, Alun Howley on communication and Jane regarding development. Also pray for those who participate in each of those teams, bringing their experience, skills and expertise to further the project.  Thank you for the time and energy they release to serve God in this way.
  • Pray for Leadership as they consider all the feedback from the evening on Thursday 18 June, which has been collated and simplified.  Pray for wisdom.
  • Pray for the Church Meeting on Thursday 9 July as the information is fed back in detail and a decision taken as to which Architect to appoint.  Pray for unity and a sense of expectation as the project is moved forward; that everyone would be encouraged by the tangible signs of a work in progress.
  • Pray for Alan Cook as he works through and considers all the implications of the 'Fire Risk Assessment' Report which has recently been undertaken.  Pray for wisdom as he prioritizes and co-ordinates all the work which will need to be done as a consequence of this report.

As always, if anyone has any comments please do not hesitate to contact me.
Jane

BUILD Update from Church Meeting 21 May 2009

We are aiming to communicate clearly regarding the BUILD Project and the work which needs to be done around the premises. So for the benefit of those who did not attend the Church Meeting on st1:date year="2009" day="21" month="5">Thursday 21 May 2009 here is a brief update:o:p>

Following our decision not to undertake the big, £3 million, rebuild project there is extensive work to be done throughout the site.

From the last church meeting you will know that Alan Cook has been working hard identifying everything which needs attention, compiling lists, prioritising and obtaining quotations from contractors. At the same time the BUILD project board has been continuing to work on the proposals for the Main Hall, Pre-school and Parlour. These two areas were the subject of the Leaders Away Day morning on the 9th May and the purpose of this presentation is to bring you the following recommendations:

1. Looking after what we have got.

All the items requiring attention have been divided into three priorities:-

Priority 1 Items require immediate attention.

We need to attend to these items because we are currently breaching Health & Safety legislation or the requirements of an external body, and consequently our premises insurance is invalidated.

We need to immediately undertake work to make the building watertight and prevent further deterioration of the fabric of the building.

Timescale – over the summer 09

The budget for this work is £60K

This work will be funded by Reserves.

We recognise further spend maybe needed as a consequence of fixed electrical and fire inspections

2. Improving the signage and storage

Internal by September 09

Storage proposals by September, some work over summer hols, must adhere to Health & Safety legislation

3. How you can help

Thank you to those of you who already do regular work in the garden and around the site. If you would like to assist further we:

Plan to organise a work party of volunteers to under take selected items of work around the site such as gardening, keeping the site clean and tidy and simple decoration projects.

Please give your name to Jane or Alan

4. Planning for the future

Alan has been working on a programme of cyclical maintenance. In order to look after our premises in the future we need to be spending in the region on £40-50K a year.

5. Changing what we have got: BUILD 09

Three architects have been invited to submit Design Concepts for the Main Hall, Pre-school and Parlour. The designs are due in 1 June.

The architects have been invited to present their ideas to the Leadership, Project Board, Development Team on Thursday 4 June.

Church members will be able to have a look at the proposals on the18th and 21st of June

Outline Project Briefs are available – please ask Jane for one.

We are working up a funding strategy.

We would like to be in a position to make a recommendation at the next church meeting, 9th July, as to which architect should be engaged on the project.

As always, please do not hesitate to speak to either Jane Brookes (BUILD) or Alan Cook (Premises) should you require any further information or have any comments to make.

Update from Church Meeting 19 March 09

The BUILD Team is aiming to communicate as effectively as possible the progress being made with the project. Therefore if you missed the Church Meeting on Thursday 19 March here is a summary of the items presented (Visuals shown on post below - click play):
  1. Maintaining the premises.
A priority list for maintenance is being prepared. This will include costs and will be presented to the leadership by end of March 2009. We are also addressing storage issues.
  2. The church spire is being repaired.
The contractor, SEECO, is waiting for the copper to be delivered.
  3. Flat roof inspection.
All the flat roofs over the site, including the Stables, are being inspected to establish what work needs to be done.
  4. Warehouse roof.
A number of corrugated plastic skylights have been replaced.
  5. Ideas for redevelopment.
The project board has outlined a number of ideas for the Welcome area, Main Hall and Primary Room. An indication of costs is currently being obtained for these options.
  6. The Outline Deign Brief
has been drafted and has been discussed by the Leadership Team. This is an important document because it identifies the aims and objectives of the project and will be given to any consultant employed by LRBC on the project
  7. Signage around the site.
It has been agreed to install comprehensive signage around the site beginning with a pilot along the Pall Mall corridor.

Please contact me if you would like to know anything more or have views to express! I can be contacted by e-mail or at the church office or on my mobile, 07974 562981.
