Leigh Road Baptist Church statement regarding Tony Anthony

The Leigh Road Baptist Church (LRBC) leadership and church members have been following with sadness the unfolding of events since the completion of the independent enquiry conducted by the Evangelical Alliance into accusations levelled at Tony Anthony regarding the truth of his testimony in Taming the Tiger. It will be known that the book, Taming the Tiger has been withdrawn by its publishers and that Avanti Ministries has ceased all operations.

The LRBC leadership and church membership have accepted the known findings of the enquiry and consequently LRBC can no longer support in any way any ministry of Tony Anthony.

Tony and Sara Anthony are no longer members of LRBC and the family worship elsewhere.

We recognise that the recent revelations regarding Tony Anthony’s ministry may well have deep ramifications for numerous people who were touched by his testimony, or who came to faith in Jesus, in part, through Tony’s witness. We want to offer to these people our prayers, reassurances and where appropriate any support needed. Please do contact one of the ministers of the church if that would help.

LRBC and Churches Together in Leigh have fun at Old Leigh Regatta

Old Leigh Regatta 2013 Montage

Saturday and Sunday 21 and 22 September 2013 saw Leigh Road Baptist Church Community Volunteers and the Churches Together in Leigh at the wonderful Old Leigh Regatta 2013

It was a great weekend out in the community playing cage football with loads of children, Dads and Mums, as well as by selling bric-a-brac and old books for the regatta charities.

The regatta was celebrating 40 years of this great community event, and it was a privilege for the Church to be involved. With loads of much needed funds being raise for this years chosen charities of St John’s Ambulance and the Sea Scouts in the Old Town.

Thank you so much to all the regatta, scout, Lions, Churches Together in Leigh, sailing clubs and St John’s volunteers for all your hard work in making it a wonderful weekend.

Explore the meaning of life over cake with the Alpha Course at Oasis The Coffee House

A new Alpha Course is set to start soon at Oasis The Coffee House, 189 Leigh Road, Leigh-on-Sea. The course which creates space for guests to explore the meaning of life will start with a taster session on Thursday 26 September, 7.30pm until 9.15pm.

The course then runs every Thursday until 12 December (with a break for half term on Thursday 31 October).

If you are interested in finding out more about Alpha or to sign up please contact the Church office via our contacts page. Information and invites can also be picked up from Oasis The Coffee House, and the Leigh Road Baptist Church reception on Marguerite Drive.

Who is Alpha for?

Alpha is for everyone; no question is out of bounds and you are free to discuss as much or as little as you wish. We don’t assume any background knowledge of or belief in Christianity and everyone is welcome.

What is Alpha?

Alpha is an opportunity to explore the meaning of life in an informal, fun and friendly environment. The Alpha course consists of a series of talks, looking at topics including ‘Who is Jesus?’ and ‘Why and how do I pray?’, with the option of a weekend away. We meet for supper and each talk is followed by discussion in small groups.

This week we welcome a new member to the staff team at Oasis The Coffee House and Leigh Road Baptist Church – Emma Nash. Emma takes on the role of mission development lead for the church Coffee House and Cafe. We look forward to helping Emma settle in and soar in her role to bring new adventures for Oasis and all who visit.
