Free Film Screening: Live 58 The Film: Leigh Road Baptist Church

Over 50 people watched 58: The Film at Leigh Road Baptist Church. Powerful! Have you missed it? You can watch it online by visiting this website.

Live 58 The Film Graphic

You are invited to join with us for the free Big Screen showing of the important film 58: The free Leigh-on-Sea première takes place at Leigh Road Baptist Church, Margueriete Drive on Sunday 25 March, 6.30 pm.

58: THE FILM is the inspiring true story of the global Church in action. Witness bravery and determined faith in a journey from the slums of Kenya to the streets of New York. Confront the brutality of extreme poverty and meet those who live out the True Fast of Isaiah 58 and create stunning new possibilities for the future.

Travel from the sun-scorched plains of rural Ethiopia to British shopping centers, from Brazilian ganglands and the enslaving quarries of India to western churches, businesses and conferences.

58: invites audiences to discover the incredible work of God through His people in our hurting world. Meet ordinary people, hear their stories, and see their struggles and their victories as 58: shows the relentlessly loving God at work through His Church bringing hope to the darkest challenges of our day. Experience eye-opening reasons to lift our expectations of the future.

Woven with Biblical truth, this film draws audiences into life-changing examples of the True Fast of Isaiah 58 – a young British woman prevailing over the pressures of consumer society, Ethiopian Christians working to restore their environment, an American business owner promoting Fair Trade coffee and connecting his local community with the work of ending poverty, a local pastor in India working to be a Good Samaritan to those enslaved by bonded labor, and the sacrificial generosity of New York youth giving up their own food for the sake of those with even less.

These impatient revolutionaries and ordinary prophets present viewers with an empowering vision of the Church rising up to its remarkable potential to end extreme poverty, by bringing God’s words through Isaiah to life in our time, in our day.

Happy Valentines Day – God Loves Leigh

#GodLovesLeigh Gods Valentine Card Heart

                                #GodLovesLeigh

WELCOME to the Leigh Road Baptist Church website! A particularly warm welcome to you, if you’re visiting here for the first time, as a result of reading the Valentines Card that contains the Love Letter from God to you.

Please understand that the God’s Love Letter is a FREE gift to you, with no strings attached. We require absolutely nothing from you in return – we’re just grateful that you took the trouble to read it.

The Valentines Card comes to you, and the homes surrounding Leigh Road Baptist Church, delivered to you personally by the people that attend the church, with love. From local people to local people, into over 2,000 homes in the surrounding streets.

We’re doing this because we strongly believe that God loves ALL people everywhere – including everyone in Leigh; regardless of age, class, colour, race, nationality, sex, sexuality, mobility, disability or any other detail that we feel may be important (or not) about ourselves. We believe that God loves you, however good or bad you feel you are – however worthy or unworthy of His Love you think you might be.

…and he doesn’t just love you – He’s FASCINATED by you!

If you would like to learn more, not about our love but about God’s Love for you, please do get in contact . We’ll happily send you a free magazine that tells you more.

You may also like to consider trying The Alpha Course, which is a an opportunity to explore the claims of Christianity in a relaxed, friendly and interesting way – where no question is too taboo. We have a taster session coming soon at the end of February. Please do visit our news item for more information and to watch a short film on what to expect.

…and it goes without saying, you are always welcome to join in the many activities that take place at the church every week. There’s something for everyone so please do explore our website! A great place to start is our ‘what to expect area‘ … and if you have any questions, do drop us a line!

If you are on Facebook or Twitter you are welcome to post comments on the Valentines Card from God by ‘liking’ our Facebook page or using the hash tag #GodLovesLeigh on Twitter.

God bless you and  Happy Valentines Day.

Local youth workers and community volunteers light up Leigh!

The crowds pass the stage Community volunteers
Over 1000 people were served by the Churches Together in Leigh during the Leigh Lights Parade! In an event organised by youth workers Celia Lunn (Leigh-on-Sea SA Corps), Lucy Brown (Wesley Methodist) and Community Worker David Elcock (Leigh Road Baptist (LRBC)) and funded by the Union Congregational Church, LRBC and Welsley Methodist, more than 700 mince pies and gallons of mulled fruit juice were given free to families and young people.

An army of volunteers from the local churches were on hand to help distribute the hot goods, and this was all done to the accompaniment of worship band Doxology from Romford SA Corps, who kept people dancing to a mix of secular and religious music.

When asked why they wanted to put on a live music event, Celia said “after the Leigh Lights last year there were loads of young people hanging around in the streets with nowhere to go and nothing to do. We wanted to do something for them, and what better than make the most of the festival atmosphere with some open air live music?”.

Happy young people enjoy the music Doxology provide the music
Majors John and Teresa Carmichael of Leigh-on-Sea Corps were there lending their support. John says “It was great to see so many people involved and see so many members of the public taking invitations to Christmas events!”. Ben Still SA Divisional Youth Officer said “It was a great event and a really good chance to make contact with some of the young people of Leigh. I’m really looking forward to helping these dedicated youth workers build on those initial contacts further and seeing where they might lead!”.

All in all it seemed the light shone even brighter this year in Leigh-on-Sea!
